  • Review: I just used it in some tests, since I usually don't record phone conversations.
I bought this accessory with an Olympus DM-520 just because it was so cheap that I thought it was better having it for some need than miss it in some occasions.
I tested it both with conventional and cell phones and the result was very good.
I think it is useful to have an opportunity to record, for instance, a conversations when I am complaining about a guarantee or a service. I faced such problem once and I just couldn't proof that the company promised me something that was denied later. Had I recorded those conversations, and I'd had never been cheated by them. Indeed, I have experienced that the only warning that you are recording the conversation changes the way the company ears you.
In short: so cheap, so good.

  • Review: I was scared of this mic for some reason--all without merit. It's too easy to use and fits comfortably in my ear while recording calls. It also works really well between catching my voice and the one over the phone. Great.

  • Review: I used to use an analog cassette recorder with a pickup that plugged directly into the phone jack, to record my interviews for articles. I got this and the Olympus VN6200 to replace my old setup. It seems a bit odd to me, to have a device that just records the sound coming out of the phone (as opposed to plugging directly into the phone jack, or into the 2.5-mm headset plug), but it seems to be working fine so far. The sound quality is decent. Once again, it's bizarre to have this thing stuck in your ear between you and the phone, but I haven't had any trouble hearing, and the recordings have been fine. So, the only thing I could wish different would be to have something like that that could record directly off a headset, or something like that.

  • Review: I'm a freelance writer/editor, and the combo of my Olympus DS-2 digital recorder and the TP-7 recording device is absolutely essential to my business. You just plug one end in the recorder, slip the rubber bud in your ear, and it records both sides of the conversation. Very clean sound, and much easier and more accurate than taking notes by hand. I like the fact that I can use it with any cell phone or land line.

Be forewarned that the wire is somewhat delicate and therefore should be treated with care. I used mine heavily for probably 5 years or so before having to replace it--pretty good return on investment!
